One fine day in the Optha Ward

Had one of the finest discussions with Ophthalmology HOD sir today in our ward class. So it started with LGBTQ discussion as sir was flipping pages through my friend's FMT notebook and slowly went to the series " Modern Love" where the stories are taken from New York Times and how now various copies of that are made in India and other parts of the world. Then the discussion went over to PLAB and USMLE ( sir's daughter is studying MBBS and thereby his concern towards her future). He gave us such valuable information which probably we haven't had the chance to get from any professor during the course of last 2 years. Everyone just talks about proffs and vivas but he actually talked about the things which he probably knows better because of all his experience and all his friend circle and colleague circuit. He even highlighted one of the key concerns that I had as a woman. The career clock and biological clock are totally in conflict with each other. The age when you are supposed to make your career that's the same age when you have to get married and have kids and have a family. He even said that's why women have to be more pro-active. Men can have the privilege of focussing on one but women won't have that. He even told us to go for the UK degree and to come back after 35-40 and the best thing that he said never stop working if you want to go for the UK set up , the experience is more valuable than sitting home and studying( which obviously the Indian system demands). The class of cornea just was too awesome to be not framed out. This was probably the first time I felt as if the professor really cared and we were not merely just a class to him.
